Announcements: Week of 4/15/2021

I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break last week and was able to find time to rest and relax as we prepare for the final stretch of the school year. Here are several reminders for students and parents as we enter the final 9 week grading period:

  • Please remember the deadline to submit missing assignments is Friday, April 16. Students and parents can log in to Canvas to see grades and check on missing assignments. Likewise, if a student did poorly on an assignment and feels they can do better, please contact the teacher for the class and we can reassign the work for you to do again.
  • Cookie dough delivery is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20th. Orders will be ready for students to pick up after school.
  • The date for the band awards night has been changed to Thursday, June 3rd at Ebenezer Park. More details will be shared in May, but please be sure to make this change on your calendars as it is different than the date that was listed on the calendar distributed in February. We will start at 6:00 and should be finished by 9:00.
  • The NHS Spring Band Concert is still set for the evening of May 25th. A location hasn’t been finalized, but we do know it will start at 7:00 pm and will be outdoors.
  • Plans are moving ahead for the 2021 Marching Band show. We are still waiting to receive information from the guidance department that includes the list of students who have requested marching band next fall. Once that information is shared with us we will send out detailed information regarding band camp and fall performance dates. For those of you who are planning your summer vacations, we are looking at July 26-30 and August 2-6 for band camps.
    • The show reveal will be Monday, June 7th!
  • Please be sure to log in for the May booster meeting on Monday, May 3rd as we will be voting on the booster executive board. The slate at this time is:
    • Kimberly Shaw – President
    • Stephanie Tinker & Ken Nodes – Vice President
    • Mecca Harvey – Treasurer
    • Swonda Dixon – Junior Treasurer
    • Dara Ross – Secretary
  • We can accept additional nominations that evening if anyone would still like to be considered for one of the positions. Please contact Mr. Yost or Todd Tucker ([email protected]) if you have any questions or concerns.

As always, feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach us through email at the addresses listed below or call the band room and leave a message. We will return your call as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Mark S. Yost

🎺 MEET THE STAFF

Summer rehearsals begin Tuesday, July 8 from 9am-12pm, and we couldn’t be more excited to get started! To help prepare us all for the season ahead, we want to introduce you to our incredible instructional staff who make it all possible.

🎺 NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL BAND DIRECTORS: Daniel Gulledge, Scot McGuire
Meet your high school band directors! Mr. Gulledge is joining our staff this year from his previous position as band director at Indian Land High School. He is an incredibly gifted educator with an eye for design and a knack for nurturing young people. Alongside Mr. McGuire, they lead the charge at Northwestern—designing shows, running rehearsals, and guiding students to be their very best on and off the field. Their vision and dedication keep the entire program thriving. We can’t wait to start this season under their leadership.
