Announcements – Week of 2/24

It’s hard to believe we are approaching the end of February! I’m sure you all are ready for spring to arrive after the cold rain we’ve experienced recently. One sure sign that spring is on the way is when we start registration for the SCBDA Solo & Ensemble Assessments. All students must participate in an ensemble this year, which will take place entirely during band classes at school and be free of cost. Students are currently picking out music for their ensembles and will rehearse as a small ensemble during each class period. We will record ensemble performances during class either the week of March 29 or April 15. If students would like to register for a solo, they will be responsible for a $20 registration/accompaniment fee. Students may also sign up for a second ensemble outside of the ensemble they will play within the class. Students in a second ensemble are responsible for a $4/person registration fee.

To register for a solo or a second ensemble, click here.

STUDENTS, please remember to log in to your Zoom class EVERY DAY you are at home – this is a school requirement! If you do not join the Zoom OR if you are not visible to us on Zoom through the first 15 minutes of class, you will be marked absent! After your dismissal from Zoom, you will have an assignment posted on your Canvas homepage. Students must submit the assignment by the end of the class period, or we will mark it late. There is an alarming number of students with missing assignments right now, resulting in failing grades. Please take the time to turn in late assignments, as you will still get credit for completing them late!

Check CANVAS and SMARTMUSIC to see your grades and turn in missing assignments!

 Additional reminders:

  • There is a Band Parent meeting on Monday at 7:00 pm. Click here to join!
    • The band parent meeting is a great chance for you to learn about what is happening in band class and what we are preparing for in the future. This time of year, the meetings are generally about 30 minutes or less, and you can listen in from the comfort of your own home.
  • Coffee orders have arrived and will be delivered to all Gold/B-Day students today. Purple/A-Day students will be able to pick up their orders tomorrow, 2/25.
  • The Cookie Dough sale will begin next month. Keep your eye out for more information!

We greatly appreciate your support of the program during these difficult times, and we look forward to sharing live performances with you again soon. Please don’t hesitate to call or email us if you have any questions!

🎺 MEET THE STAFF

Summer rehearsals begin Tuesday, July 8 from 9am-12pm, and we couldn’t be more excited to get started! To help prepare us all for the season ahead, we want to introduce you to our incredible instructional staff who make it all possible.

🎺 NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL BAND DIRECTORS: Daniel Gulledge, Scot McGuire
Meet your high school band directors! Mr. Gulledge is joining our staff this year from his previous position as band director at Indian Land High School. He is an incredibly gifted educator with an eye for design and a knack for nurturing young people. Alongside Mr. McGuire, they lead the charge at Northwestern—designing shows, running rehearsals, and guiding students to be their very best on and off the field. Their vision and dedication keep the entire program thriving. We can’t wait to start this season under their leadership.
