Announcements – Week of 1/25/2023

Please be sure to read through this message as there is information about CWEA Premiere performances for our winter guard and concert percussion ensembles as well as a reminder about the second Hawaii Informational Meeting tomorrow night and information regarding the Coffee Sale order turn-in which is on Monday next week.  But first, I want to start by recognizing those students who were selected to participate in the SCBDA All-State and Region Honor Bands.  They include: Edison Cubbedge who as named as one of the drummers in the All-State Jazz Ensembles; Jackson Shaw – Senior Band tuba; and Chloe McGuire – Clinic Band horn. Named as alternates to the All-State Clinic Band were Connor King, Appa Norris, and Abbygail Thomas.  Students selected to the SCBDA Region 3 Senior Honor Band include: Gracie Grant, Gabrielle Harvey, Stephen Hodges, Jordan Johnson, Kaelin King, Marshall McRae, Trinity Moore, Kaylee Newell, Daniel Schlauch, Chandler Williams and Skylen Wilson.  The Region 3 Clinic Band students are: Jeferson Arevalo – 1st Chair; Taylor Armstrong, Jude Carroll, Lucia Coghi, Isaac Crane, Edison Cubbedge, Corbin Drawdy, Connor King, Alex Lenzi, Oliver Lenzi, Appa Norris, Phoenix Pipgras, and Abbygail Thomas – 1st Chair.  We are extremely proud of the work these students have done preparing for these auditions. The dedication and commitment they demonstrated is an example for others to follow and are traits that will help them achieve even higher goals in the future.  Congratulations to all of these students and to ALL the students who took the time to prepare and participate in these auditions.

Additional Information for this week includes:

Hawaii 2024 Information Meetings:

The second Hawaii information meeting will be tomorrow evening, Thursday, January 26, at 7:00 pm in the Northwestern High School Auditorium for those students and parents who could not attend the meeting last night. The presentation will include travel dates, a tentative itinerary, cost, and payment plan. We will also post the information on the website in the next few days and will provide a link to the page in the update next week.

Winter Guard & Conert Percussion Premiere

The Northwestern Varsity Winter Guard and Concert Percussion Ensemble will present their premiere performances at Catawba Ridge High School this Saturday.  The percussion ensemble will perform at 9:00 am and the color guard will be at 6:41 pm.  Click HERE for directions, ticket prices, and additional information.

Coffee & Popcorn Fundraiser:

The annual coffee and popcorn fundraiser is under way and runs through Monday, January 30.  Please be sure all orders are turned in on Monday as we need to submit our order to the company by February 1st.  The payments and order forms should be placed in an envelope with the student’s name Coffee/Popcorn Sale written on the envelope.  Students should hand the envelope to Mr. Yost or Mr. McGuire when they arrive at school.  Middle school parents should drop it off at Northwestern or, if that is not possible on Monday, have your child take to school and give it to Mr. Ellison or Mr. Skellett.  Please notify me as well so I will know to go to the school and pick up the orders.  Checks shoud be made payable to NHS Band Boosters.

Band Booster News:

Please click HERE to read the January Booster meeting minutes. The next parent meeting will be Monday, February 6th, at 7:00 pm in the band room.

Be sure to keep some time open on Saturday, February 25, as we will be hosting the WGI Charlotte Regional Championships at Northwestern that day and need volunteers.  This is similar to the Olde English Festival of Bands, but instead of the whole band performing, it is just the color guard.  There will be 60 groups performing from across the southeast for this show, so we need to be sure we have a strong team of volunteers lined up for the show to run smoothly and to help our guests feel welcome.

Monthly Band Fee Payments:

Remember to make your monthly band fee payment. You can pay with cash, check, or money order, place it in an envelope with your child’s name and the payment, and then have your child drop it by the band office. You can also deduct it from your child’s BCP account by filling out the form HERE. Another option is to pay it electronically directly to the school by clicking HERE.

Really sad to miss this big event but have two other grand dudes in their band concert at Dutchman Creek Middle School—same exact time.

Can't wait!
