Announcements – Week of 9/7/2022

Even though it is over two weeks away, please be sure to have the Olde English Festival of Bands on your calendar for Saturday, September 24. We have cohosted this contest with Rock Hill High School for the past 38 years at District Three Stadium. This event is typically one of our most significant fundraising events of the year, and it requires participation from all our students and parents to be successful. We need all our parents and students to volunteer for at least one two-hour shift during the day. Your help will ensure our visitors have a positive experience and that the workload is manageable. We must have the afternoon shifts covered as the Rock Hill parents will be in the stands watching their performance, and they will cover the late evening shifts so our parents can watch our performance. What can be a long day can be much easier if we all chip in, and some have even found it to be an enjoyable day as they get to watch the other bands and meet parents from across town and from the other bands.

Please contact Heather King or Patrick Crane with questions concerning Olde English.

Additional information for this week includes:

We are also looking for volunteers to help finish assembling props. Please plan to attend a work session from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 8, at the band field. Nothing we need to do takes a great deal of skill. We just need some help to get the work done so the students can practice with the props before we put them on the field for a performance.

We will take a pep band to the game at Nation Ford High School this week. A sign-up sheet has been posted in the band room for students to sign if they wish to attend. Click HERE for detailed information about the trip.

Sign up here if you want to chaperone at a game or a competition this fall. Individuals interested in chaperoning must have attended a chaperone training session and have a VERIFIED status with Rock Hill Schools. Contact Kimberly Shaw or Heather King if there are questions

Parent Show Shirts should be in this week and will come home with students.

Rehearsal Schedule for next week:

  • Monday 9/12 Rehearsal 4-5:30
  • Tuesday 9/13 Rehearsal 4-6:00
  • Wednesday 9/14 Rehearsal 4-5:30
  • Thursday 9/15 Rehearsal 4-6:00
  • Friday 9/16 Home Football Game at District 3 Stadium – Military Bowl vs. Gaffney
  • Saturday 9/17 Rehearsal & Exhibition 8:00 am to 7:00 pm

Please note that we will have a detailed schedule for next Saturday as soon as it is available. At this time, we know we will start rehearsal that morning at 8:00 am and will have a clinic with Noah Bellamy at some point that morning. Mr. Bellamy is one of the clinicians who will provide commentary on our performance later that afternoon and provide detailed assistance during his clinic with the students here at the school. The students will have lunch provided at the school and then change into uniforms and bus over to Nation Ford for our performance late that afternoon.

Another additional note to be sure is on your calendar is the rehearsal at District 3 Stadium on Friday, September 23. The students will report to 4th block that day, change clothes and then board buses to the stadium for the rehearsal. The rehearsal will end at 5:30, and students must be picked up at the stadium. Students who drive to school need to pick up a permission form from Mr. Yost to drive to the stadium for the rehearsal.

Remember to make your monthly band fee payment. You can pay with cash, check, or money order, place it in an envelope with your child’s name and the payment, and then have your child drop it by the band office. You can also deduct it from your child’s BCP account by filling out the form HERE. Another option is to pay it electronically directly to the school by clicking HERE.

Please let us know if you are any questions or concerns, and we hope to see everyone at the game this Friday night.

Really sad to miss this big event but have two other grand dudes in their band concert at Dutchman Creek Middle School—same exact time.

Can't wait!
