Announcements: Week of 4/21/2022

Parents and Students,

I hope you had an enjoyable spring break! I know the students and parents who traveled to Virginia with us over the first four days of break all had a great time and presented a wonderful concert at Busch Gardens. The next few weeks will be busy as we push on to the end of the year, so please make sure your calendars are up to date! You can access the 2nd-semester calendar HERE. Please note that the jazz band and percussion ensemble concert have been moved to Tuesday, May 10th at 7:00 pm in the band room. The concert will feature the NHS Senior Jazz Ensemble and the percussion ensembles from Northwestern, Dutchman Creek, and Rawlinson Road.

Additional announcements:

  • The “Come See Me” parade is TOMORROW, Thursday, April 21st, and is a MANDATORY performance for all students enrolled in the band this semester.
    • The call time for the students is 5:30 pm in the parking lot near 135 Oakland Ave (The Well Church). The parade starts at 6:30 and will finish at Fountain Park between 7:00 and 7:15.
    • Dress is summer uniform: a purple band shirt (or purple NHS shirt), khaki shorts, and sneakers.
  • Solo and Ensemble is this Friday at Sullivan Middle School!
    • Students will receive detailed information in class on Friday. If you have not already paid your Solo & Ensemble registration fee, please submit this payment as soon as possible.
  • The May parent meeting is next Monday, April 25, at 7:00 pm in the band room.
    • We will vote on the executive board for next year and discuss some changes to our bylaws.
    • Immediately after the meeting, we will have the show reveal for the 2022 edition of the Purple Regiment! Please make plans to attend as we will discuss several other aspects of the marching band season during this time as well. We will also welcome the rising 9th-grade students and parents, so it will be a great opportunity for everyone to meet new friends!
  • The band awards night is Thursday, May 12, and will start with desserts and fellowship in the band room at 6:00 pm and then move to the auditorium for the awards presentation at 7:00 pm. We need your help to make this celebration a success! Below is a list of assistance needed:
    • Please bring an appetizer to the banquet if your child’s last name begins with A-L
    • Please bring a dessert to the banquet if your child’s last name begins with M-Z
    • Sophomore and Junior Parents: Please help with the cleanup in the band room and the auditorium after the event.
    • Senior Parents: Please help us set up for the event if possible. The exact times will be sent later.
  • Balance information for outstanding marching band and winter guard fees was mailed late last month. Please be sure to pay outstanding balances as soon as possible. Contact Mr. Yost or Ms. Carlson if you have any questions or concerns.
  • We have confirmed that the band will NOT participate in the commencement ceremony on Friday, May 27. Students will not be required to attend this event.

As always, please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for all you do for our band program!
