Happy Holidays from the Purple Regiment

As we wrap up the fall semester and 2021, I want to thank you all for everything you have done for Northwestern Bands this year. I am very excited about the future of the Northwestern Band, and am looking forward to what the new year will bring for us! Sharing the joy of music with others creates memories and builds relationships, which are all an important part of the holiday season. I hope everyone has a wonderful break, and I look forward to seeing you again in January!

Additional announcements and reminders:

  • Congratulations to senior French Hornist Derek Thompson on being named as a finalist for the SCBDA Master Recital!
    • The Master Recital is part of the SCMEA Professional Development Conference in Columbia from February 3-5. Derek was selected as one of 12 finalists from across the state to perform at this recital.
  • Region Band Auditions are Saturday, January 8 at Blythewood High School. The audition times are posted in the band room. Students do need to make their own travel arrangements. Please contact the band office if you need help arranging a carpool.
  • If you are auditioning for Region Band, please don’t forget to practice over the break! You can access the audition requirements HERE. 9th and 10th graders will audition at the Clinic level, and 11th and 12th graders will audition at the Senior level.
  • We are hosting a guard show again this year on Saturday, January 29th.  At this time it looks like we will have 60 units participating so it will be a full day and we will need all families to help.  This event is very similar to Olde English in how it is run, the volunteers that are needed, and the amount of money it can raise for the booster club in just one day.  Volunteer positions and times will be posted in Charms soon and we will discuss the event in much more detail at our next booster meeting on Monday, January 10th.
  • Congratulations to senior saxophonist Croft Cubbedge and junior tubist Jackson Shaw on their selection to participate in the 44th annual University of South Carolina Band Clinic and Conductors’ Symposium, February 10-13! Croft & Jackson were selected from hundreds of nominations that were submitted from over 100 high schools in five states.
  • Please remember the next payment for the spring trip is due on January 15th. Send your payment directly to Stamm Travel with your payment sheet!
    • If you wish to pay using BCPs, please indicate this on the payment form you send to Stamm, and complete the BCP authorization form so we can transfer your payment. We will send one check to cover all BCP payments each month.
    • There still is room for some additional travelers including parents who are welcome to travel as tag-alongs.  Please contact Mr. Yost if you would like to join us on the trip and haven’t signed up yet.

As always, please be sure to contact us if you have any questions or concerns, and thank you again for all you do for our program!

Really sad to miss this big event but have two other grand dudes in their band concert at Dutchman Creek Middle School—same exact time.

Can't wait!
