Announcements: Week of 12/1/2021

I hope this message finds you well, and that your Thanksgiving break was both relaxing and restful. As we enter the last few weeks of the semester it is critical that students use their time wisely to ensure that they complete all their assignments, projects, and final exam preparation for every class. In band, we have two performances remaining – the Rock Hill Christmas Parade this Friday, and our Holiday Concert on December 9th. There are four playing assignments that have been assigned this quarter, and a fifth will be assigned next week. You have until Sunday, December 19th to turn in any missing assignments!

For winds, the final exam will be to play your seven major scales (9th/10th grade) or nine major scales (11th/12th grade). Percussionists will perform rudiments for Mr. Walker, and guard members will be asked to demonstrate basic technique exercises for Mr. Wade. We will begin final exams on Monday, December 20th. Please be sure you are prepared!

Additional announcements and reminders include:

  • The Rock Hill Christmas Parade is this Friday, December 3rd!
    • We will meet at 5:30 on the lawn adjacent to Dinkins Hall (#37 on map) and the parade starts at 6:30. The parade ends in the parking lot across Black Street from the Rock Hill Schools Central Office. I anticipate we will finish no later than 7:30 pm. Please see the attached document for more detailed information.
  • Fruit Delivery is this Saturday, December 4 at 8:00 am! Attendance is mandatory for all students who sold fruit.
    • It should take 45 minutes to an hour to unload the truck and prepare the fruit. Once that is completed, students will receive their order forms and will be able to start filling their orders. Once you have your fruit and have verified your order with an adult, you are free to leave!
    • If a student is not able to attend, they must plan for someone to help unload the truck and pick up their order for them. No fruit will be left in the band room over the weekend.
  • The next band parent/Booster Club meeting is on Monday, December 6, at 7:00 pm in the band room, or on Zoom by clicking here
  • The Holiday Concert is Thursday, December 9, at 7:30 pm in the auditorium. The concert will feature the concert band, jazz ensemble, several small ensembles, and an encore performance of “Home” by the marching band. The concert is free, but we will be accepting donations for the Rock Hill Empty Stocking Fund. This is a local charity that aids local families in need so everyone can have something under the tree on Christmas morning.
  • Band picture orders should have been submitted by now. If you still need to place an order, click HERE for instructions on how to order
  • If you are registered for region band auditions but have not yet paid the $12.00 registration fee, please do so ASAP
  • Please remember the next payment for the spring trip was due on December 15th. Please be sure to send your payment directly to Stamm Travel with the payment coupon!
  • If you wish to pay using BCPs, please indicate this on the payment form you send to Stamm, and complete the BCP authorization form so we can transfer your payment. We will send one check to cover all BCP payments each month.

As always, please be sure to contact us if you have any questions or concerns, and thank you again for all you do for our program!

Really sad to miss this big event but have two other grand dudes in their band concert at Dutchman Creek Middle School—same exact time.

Can't wait!
