Summer Information for 2021 Marching Band

I hope this letter finds you and your family doing well and that you have been able to find some time this summer to get away and relax. As I am sure you are well aware, band camp begins in just a few short weeks – which means the start of another school year is not far behind. I wanted to pass along some reminders and additional information you will need as we prepare to start band camp on July 26th. Please pay careful attention to the following documents:

  • Band Fee Information for your review. Please contact the band office if you have any questions or concerns.
  • The Summer Schedule for you to confirm when you are required to be at band camp.
  • The Fall Schedule is now updated with the inclusion of competitions we will attend. Be sure to mark these on your calendar so we do not have conflicts during the season.
  • A Band Camp Survival Guide with helpful tips from staff and veteran members for a successful band camp experience!

Additional Reminders Include:

  1. All students should have a current athletic physical on file when camp starts. If your child has not had a physical, please have that done as soon as possible. Doctors Care on Cherry Road is providing this service for $20.00 through July 31.
  2. Be prepared for warm, sunny weather during band camp. Get outside now and start to exercise – acclimating yourself to the summer heat.
  3. Please note: ALL students are to report to the band room at 8:00 am on Monday, July 26th. Students will be dismissed at noon for lunch and will return for music rehearsal from 1:30 to 4:00. Students may leave campus for lunch but may certainly bring a lunch and eat in the band room. We will rehearse from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening.
  4. There is a mandatory parent meeting on Thursday, July 29th, at 7:00 PM in the band room. We will discuss the schedule for band camp for the following week, as well as the procedures and expectations of our program. A parent/guardian from each family and all band students must be present.
  5. Orders for marching shoes and gloves for wind and percussion members will be ordered via an online form. All students will be fitted for these items by our uniform volunteers and must place an order for these items by the last day of band camp. All wind and percussion members will need a pair of black marching shoes. Wind players will also need at least one pair of gloves. Marching shoes are approximately $35.00 and gloves range in price from $2.50-$4.00 per pair depending on the style of gloves you wish to purchase. Payment must be submitted to the band office by Friday, August 6. BCP, cash, or check (made payable to the NHS Band Boosters). This expense is not covered as part of the 2021 Marching Season Fee.
  6. Soon, you will receive information from the NHS Administration concerning the 2021-2022 Orientation Process. Orientation for all grade levels falls during band camp rehearsal time so the administration has agreed to all band students to attend orientation on Tuesday, August 3. The time of the orientation for band students will be confirmed at the MANDATORY parent meeting on July 29th.
  7. Find time to PRACTICE!! It is everyone’s responsibility to become familiar with the music before band camp starts. If you need a copy of the music, please email Mr. Yost or Ms. Carlson and your music will be forwarded to you. If you need help with the music, please contact us and we will be happy to arrange a time to meet with you here at school. Ultimately, the work you put in before camp directly impacts the success you will enjoy in October.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about any of this information, feel free to call or send us an e-mail. I will be at school just about every day until band camp and am happy to help however I can. I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Really sad to miss this big event but have two other grand dudes in their band concert at Dutchman Creek Middle School—same exact time.

Can't wait!
