Parents & Students,
I hope you had an enjoyable weekend, and you’re all ready for the final stretch of the school year! If the past two days are any indication, it is going to be hectic in the band world as we work to close out this year and get things in place to start next year. To that end, please be sure to read these updates carefully and be sure to keep up with the deadlines.
Announcements & Reminders for this week include:
- BAND AWARDS NIGHT has been moved to NHS due to the strong potential for inclement weather. We are still planning to grill hotdogs and hamburgers and will serve food from 6-7 pm outside the cafeteria. The awards ceremony will begin at 7 pm in the gym.
- Student Leadership Applications are due by 4:00 pm on Friday, June 11. Students interested in any leadership position should complete the application.
- Drum Major Auditions are next week, June 7-10 after school in the band room. In addition to completing the leadership application, interested students can view the audition procedure and other requirements in the attached PDF
- Marching band pre-season rehearsals will continue next Tuesday, June 8th, from 6:00 to 8:00 in the band room. Students should dress comfortably and be sure to bring their instruments. Students are encouraged to wear a mask while we play inside for these rehearsals.
- Chaperone training sessions will be held the next two Tuesday evenings, June 8th and 15th, from 6:30 to 7:30 in the media center at Northwestern. We will ask everyone to maintain social distance during the meeting and strongly encourage everyone to wear a mask.
- The band will NOT perform at commencement on June 24th. Since this would have been the final exam, students will be given the option to play a performance-based exam OR they will be able to take a traditional written test that will include the music theory we have discussed throughout the semester as well as musical terms appropriate for their grade level.
- Please be sure to submit the marching band registration no later than Friday, June 11. This information was part of the mailing you should have received a couple of weeks ago if your child is signed up for marching band in the fall. Enter the information digitally by clicking HERE or scan the QR code found on the yellow page in the mailing. Please be sure to contact Mr. Yost as soon as possible if you did not receive the mailing and we will get one to you as soon as possible.
- Marching Band Fees from this past fall should be paid as soon as possible. If you still have an outstanding balance, please try to get this paid as soon as possible. If you have questions, please contact the band office.
- As mentioned above, we are quickly approaching the end of the school year which means students are running out of time to make up missed assignments. Seniors have until the end of the day on Thursday, June 10th, to submit any missing assignments and underclassmen will have until Sunday, June 20th. Students will also be allowed to resubmit any assignments they would like to redo for a higher grade until those dates as well.
