Announcements – Week of 3/4

The deadline to submit the Solo & Ensemble registration form is this Friday, March 5. The form needs to be completed by all students who wish to play a solo or perform with a second ensemble. Students that register for a solo will need to pay the $20.00 registration/accompaniment fee, and the registration fee to perform in a second ensemble is $4.00 per person. As we have discussed in class, ALL students will be required to participate in an ensemble this year as it will not require any additional time outside of class, and the school will pay the registration fee for these events. Students have selected their ensemble members and should now be working on the music they decided to play. The ensembles will rehearse during class, and recordings will be made either the week before or the spring break.

On Monday, the booster executive board decided to give 100% of the profit from the coffee sale to the students. Students who sold coffee should see the additional credit to the BCP accounts by the end of the week. We will start our annual Cookie Dough sale the week of March 15. You will receive additional information next week.

Senior parents should submit baby pictures for the upcoming Memory Book. We are also looking for parents to help put the book together. If you are interested, please contact Pam Bilton at [email protected]

Lastly, I want to remind students and parents of the importance of logging into class on your remote learning days. Overall, things have gone fairly well over the past few weeks, but be sure to continue as this is a requirement for school attendance. Students should log in at the beginning of class and participate until they are dismissed by a teacher. After they are dismissed they will have a SmartMusic recording assignment to complete by the end of class. The assignments are relatively short and are based on the material we have previously worked on in-person. Students should use the time after they finish their assignments to practice their other warmups and ensemble music. As is the case with all the classes at Northwestern, please check Canvas to see assignments due for the week and keep track of the grades.

Please don’t hesitate to send us a message or give us a call if you ever have questions. We appreciate your support of the program during these challenging times and look forward to when we can share live performances again with you!

Meet your high school band directors! Mr. Gulledge is joining our staff this year from his previous position as band director at Indian Land High School. He is an incredibly gifted educator with an eye for design and a knack for nurturing young people. Alongside Mr. McGuire, they lead the charge at Northwestern—designing shows, running rehearsals, and guiding students to be their very best on and off the field. Their vision and dedication keep the entire program thriving. We can’t wait to start this season under their leadership.
