Announcements – Week of 1/27/2021

Here are a few quick reminders as we head into the last couple of weeks of the semester:

The annual Coffee Fundraiser has officially started and will run through Wednesday, February 10th. This is a premium coffee and is comparable in price to what you would find at Starbucks or other coffee shops. It has been very well received by the customers that have purchased in the past and I have already had several inquiries about when the sale will begin. Students have received the brochure and order form in class, but it is also attached to this email in case you need extra copies. Students should return the order form with the payment for their orders no later than Wednesday, February 10th. Please include both the order form and the payment in an envelope marked with your student’s name and “Coffee Sale.” Checks should be made payable to NHS Band Boosters.

We were notified yesterday afternoon that we will have a full day of school next Thursday, February 4th, and it is NOT a half day as we were originally told. As a result of this change, the Purple/A Day exams will now be performed on Tuesday and Thursday, February 2 & 4. The Gold Day exams will still be Monday and Tuesday, February 1 & 3. Students that play a wind instrument will perform major scales, from memory, in two minutes or less for Ms. Carlson and Mr. Yost. Percussionists have rudiments assigned that they will play for Mr. Walker, and guard members have a routine that will be performed for Ms. Harmon. We have been working on these requirements every day in class since we returned from break, but I do want to remind students and parents that daily practice at home needs to occur for a student to achieve at their highest level! This material isn’t particularly difficult and doesn’t take hours of practice time to master, but it does take a few minutes EVERY day!

Please remember to pay your band fees! All band families should have received a letter in early December that shows the student BCP account balances as well as any outstanding fees that need to be paid. The BCPs for the fruit sale have now been added, so you may want to check your new balances if you sold fruit. Of course, 50% of the Coffee Sale profit will also go to the student BCP accounts so please take advantage of this opportunity to raise additional funds! Fees include the $250.00 marching band fee, the $12.00 Region Band Audition fee, and charges made for folios, lyres, and reeds throughout the course of the semester. In many instances, if a student had a small region band audition fee or folio & lyre fee, and had money in their BCP account, we automatically deducted those fees from their accounts. For those that still owe the marching band fee, we would like to have it paid by the end of the semester. The important thing is to get it paid as soon as possible. Please feel free to contact me or Ms. Carlson, if you have any questions or concerns about the BCP account or the fees.

There will be a band booster meeting next Monday, February 1st at 7 PM. Please check your e-mail for access instructions.

Lastly, please note that the last day to submit late assignments is Monday, February 1st. Please be sure to check Canvas to ensure you haven’t missed any assignments. If you have any questions or concerns about a grade or any of the information above, please feel free to send us a message or give us a call. We greatly appreciate your support of the program during these difficult times and look forward to the time when we can share live performances again with you.

Really sad to miss this big event but have two other grand dudes in their band concert at Dutchman Creek Middle School—same exact time.

Can't wait!
