Announcements – Week of 12/15/2020

Here are the weekly updates and announcements for the week. Please be sure to read through everything carefully and make a note of deadlines, rehearsals, and performances!

Fruit Sale: We still have three fruit boxes available to purchase if anyone would like additional or need a last-minute gift for a coworker. Items available are:
            1 – Toffee & Mandarin Holiday Carton – $22.00 each
1 – Navel, Grapefruit, Apple Holiday Carton – $22.00 each
            1 – 10-pound box of grapefruit – $28.00

Holiday Concert:
We will be recorded during the 4th block on Wednesday and Thursday, December 16 & 17. Students should dress nicer than a typical day of school, and remember that holiday sweaters are acceptable! We will forward additional information about viewing the concert tape when everything is finalized early next week.

Band Fee & BCP Account Letters: All band families should have received a letter last week that shows the student BCP account balances and any outstanding fees that need to be paid. Please note that the BCP balances do not reflect the fruit sales. Each student was given a document with their fruit order, which does show how much they earned from the fruit sale, and these will be added to the accounts in the next few days. Fees include the $250.00 marching band fee, the $12.00 Region Band Audition fee, and charges made for folios, lyres, and reeds throughout the course of the semester. In many instances, if a student had a small region band audition fee or folio & lyre fee and had money in their BCP account, we deducted those fees from their accounts. For those that still owe the marching band fee, we would like to have it paid by the end of the semester, but if you need some extra time to pay it off, please communicate with Mr. Yost directly. The important thing is to get it paid as soon as possible. Please feel free to contact me, or Ms. Carlson, if you have any questions or concerns about the BCP account or the fees.

Winter Guard: There will be a parent meeting for all winter guard parents Thursday at 7:00 pm. Parents may attend the meeting in the Strings Room or view it virtually on Zoom. Log-in information will be emailed to all parents on Thursday. Guard members will be receiving permission and medical forms today, as well as schedule and fee information. All this will be discussed in detail during the meeting, so it is mandatory that a parent, or guardian, attend the meeting.

Other general announcements:

  • Please encourage your child to submit their attendance checks and practice log EVERY DAY on their virtual learning days. I have also noticed many students who haven’t submitted their recording assignments yet this quarter. Please take the time to catch up on these assignments if you would like to receive credit!
  • Region audition registrations are now finalized. If your child registered to audition, please encourage them to practice the audition etudes and scales for the auditions. We will record the auditions at school from January 5-8. Click HERE to go to the USC School of Music website to hear a recording of your audition etude, and be sure to see Mr. Yost, Ms. Carlson, or Mr. Walker if you would like help with your solos.
  • Information for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders interested in the USC Band Clinic is on the board in the room and attached to this email. If you would like to participate, please send Mr. Yost the required student information listed in the registration instructions.

Finally, I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday season and can enjoy time with family and friends. Please also be sure to stay safe, and I look forward to seeing you again in January.

With warmest regards,

M. Yost

Really sad to miss this big event but have two other grand dudes in their band concert at Dutchman Creek Middle School—same exact time.

Can't wait!
