Announcements – Week of 12/7/2020

Here are the weekly updates and announcements for the week. Please be sure to read through everything carefully and make a note of important deadlines!

Fruit Sale: Thank you to all of you that sold fruit and helped with the delivery this past Saturday morning. Things went very smoothly, and we were out in record time. We have a few extra items available to purchase if anyone wants additional or need a last-minute gift for a coworker. Items available are:

3 – Toffee & Mandarin Holiday Cartons – $22.00 each
2 – Navel, Grapefruit, Apple Holiday Cartons – $22.00 each

Holiday Concert: As I hope you know, there is no Holiday Concert at school this week. Rather, the ensembles will be recorded during the 4th block on December 16 & 17 and will then be streamed on several dates the week of Christmas.

Band Fee & BCP Account Letters: All band families should have received a letter in the past few days that show the student BCP account balances and any outstanding fees that need to be paid. Please note that the BCP balances do not reflect the fruit sales. Each student was given a document with their fruit order, which does show how much they earned from the fruit sale, and these will be added to their BCP accounts in the next few days. Band fees include the $250.00 marching band fee, the $12.00 Region Band Audition fee, and charges made for folios, lyres, and reeds throughout the course of the semester. In many instances, if a student had a small region band audition fee or folio & lyre fee and had money in their BCP account, we deducted those fees from their accounts. We would like to have it paid by the end of the semester for those who still owe the marching band fee, but if you need some extra time to pay it off, it won’t be a problem. The important thing is to get it paid as soon as possible. Please feel free to contact me, or Ms. Carlson, if you have any questions or concerns about the BCP account or the fees.

Other general announcements:

  • Please be sure your student is practicing every day! Students should submit an attendance check and a practice log for the band on ALL virtual learning days.
    • In addition to normal practice logs, we have regular recording assignments that serve as formal assessment grades. These can be submitted late for partial credit, but submitting these assignments on time is always preferred!
  • If your child registered to audition for REGION BAND, please encourage them to practice the audition etudes and scales. We will record the auditions at school from January 5-8.
    • Click HERE to go to the USC School of Music website to hear a recording of your audition etude. You can also always ask Mr. Yost, Ms. Carlson, or Mr. Walker for help preparing your audition materials!
  • Winter Guard Auditions are being held this week for any students interested in participating. If you know of a student interested in dance, please encourage them to stop by and talk to Ms. Harmon about the winter guard program. It is open to all interested Middle and High School students.
  • Information about the USC Band Clinic is available in the band room for all 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. You can also find registration instructions attached to this email. Please contact Mr. Yost if you are interested in applying.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns, and remember to stay safe and healthy this holiday season!

Really sad to miss this big event but have two other grand dudes in their band concert at Dutchman Creek Middle School—same exact time.

Can't wait!
