Announcements – Week of 11/30/2020

Here are the weekly updates and announcements as of 12/2/20. Please be sure to read through everything carefully and note deadline dates and rehearsals, and performances.

Saturday, December 5 – FRUIT DELIVERY!!!

  • The truck is scheduled to arrive at 7:00 AM. ALL students that ordered fruit are to be in the band room by 7:00 am to help offload the fruit. If a student is not available, please make arrangements for someone to take your place to help to unload the truck and to pick up your order. THERE SHOULD BE NO FRUIT LEFT IN THE ROOM OVERNIGHT! It should take less than 30 minutes if everyone is on time. Once we have confirmed the delivery is correct, we will start passing out the paperwork for students to fill their orders. ALL fruit must be picked up by 10:00 Saturday morning. ONCE ORDERS ARE COMPLETE, ALL ORDERS ARE TO BE CHECKED BY MR. YOST OR MS. CARLSON BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE ROOM.
  • Monday, December 7 – Band Booster Meeting! Please join the meeting using the link e-mailed out on 12/2/2020. Please contact the band office if you didn’t receive a link.
  • Concert ensembles have started and the A-Day and B-Day groups have been divided into woodwind, brass, percussion, and dance ensembles. Each group will have its own rehearsal space that will provide more than sufficient space to maintain at least 6 feet of social distancing. All ensembles will prepare a couple of selections, and we will also plan to spend 15 to 20 minutes together on most days to rehearse one selection as a combined group. The concert will be recorded during the 4th block the week of December 14th and will then be streamed on several dates the week of Christmas. We will not have a live performance at the school on the evening of December 10th.

Other general announcements:

  • Please encourage your child to practice every day and remind them to submit their attendance checks and assignments for their virtual learning days.
  • There has been a change in senior picture plans, and there will no longer be a senior group picture taken in uniform. If you would like to take individual pictures of your senior in uniform, please contact Mark Yost, and we will work out the details individually.
  • Brass players – If you would like some additional help preparing for the All-State & Region Auditions, the Winthrop Brass department is replacing our normal workshop with a virtual workshop this year on December 5th. More information is at https://wubrassclinic.weebly.com/.
  • Region audition registrations are now finalized. If your child registered to audition, please encourage them to practice the audition etudes and scales for the auditions. We will record the auditions at school from January 5-8. Click HERE to go to the USC School of Music website to hear a recording of your audition etude, and be sure to see Mr. Yost, Ms. Carlson, or Mr. Walker if you would like help with your solos.
  • All marching band instruments should be returned to the band room by Friday, December 4th, to be sent to the shop for repairs and sanitized. If your instrument isn’t on the truck to go to the repair shop, you will be expected to pay the cost for any repairs and sanitation!
  • Information for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders interested in the USC Band Clinic is on the board in the room or clicking HERE. If you would like to participate, please send Mr. Yost the required student information listed in the registration instructions.

Please reach out to us if you have any questions!

Really sad to miss this big event but have two other grand dudes in their band concert at Dutchman Creek Middle School—same exact time.

Can't wait!
