Changes to Upper-State Itinerary for 10/19

Due to the expected inclement weather expected throughout the day tomorrow, the South Carolina Band Directors Association decided to move all of the Upper State & Lower State Championship performances inside. The SCBDA made this decision in the best interest of our students’ safety, as well as to preserve the equipment used for productions. As a result of this change, we are making a few changes to our schedule. Please click here for the revised times for the day. Please note the following items:

  1. Students will change into uniforms at Northwestern and will carry their jackets in their garment bags on the bus. Students will change out of their uniforms before leaving Gaffney. They will need to have shorts on under their uniforms and should also have a pair of dry socks and sneakers to change into as their marching shoes may be soaked.
  2. Due to the limited seating in the Gaffney gym, SCBDA has asked that parents sit in the gym only during their child’s performance. Admission prices were reduced to $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students.
  3. We will feed the students after the performance but will depart Gaffney High School at 8:30 PM and should be back at Northwestern around 9:30 PM.

Again, we are all very disappointed the students won’t be able to get on the field and perform their full production tomorrow night. The alternative to cancel the performances would have ended the season for everyone. Like so many things about this activity, this is not in our control, and of course, no one can control Mother Nature. I know the Gaffney band staff and their parents are doing everything they can to make this a positive experience for everyone tomorrow. I am confident it still will be for our students. Our students adapted to the change very well in rehearsal this afternoon, and I am very excited about their performance tomorrow evening. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you all for everything you do for the students and our program. You are all wonderful, and we much appreciate your support.

Really sad to miss this big event but have two other grand dudes in their band concert at Dutchman Creek Middle School—same exact time.

Can't wait!
