While we’re a week away from the first day of school, there is much activity going on around campus. Here are some important announcements regarding the NHS Band for this week! PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE!
Tuesday Evening Rehearsal – 8/14/2018
All members of the band will rehearse on 8/14 from 6PM-8PM at the band field. Students, please remember to eat something before you arrive, HYDRATE properly throughout the day, and wear appropriate clothing. We had far too many students that needed to sit out for a portion of last week’s rehearsal. Take care of yourself so that you can have a productive and contributive rehearsal with the band on Tuesday!
Folio & Lyres will be on sale in the band office before and after rehearsal. Costs vary per instrument. Click here for a price list. Cash and BCPs are accepted.
Tuesday is the absolute LAST DAY to submit a Shoe & Glove Order Form. Please drop them in the purple box. All percussionists need black marching shoes for full uniformed performance. All winds need black marching shoes and white gloves for full uniformed performance. If financial hardship is preventing you from turning in the form, please speak with Mr. Yost or Mr. Tinker to work out a payment plan.
The infamous “Shaving Cream Fight” was postponed due to inclement weather during band camp. We are rescheduling this event for after this Tuesday’s rehearsal. The Shaving Cream event will begin after rehearsal and will conclude by 9PM. Parents – remember that participating student will be returning to your vehicles wet – so have a few extra towels to protect your carseats!
Thursday’s Rehearsal/Performance at “Meet the Trojans” – 8/16/2018
TIME CHANGE: 5:30PM-7:30PM
Call Time is 5:30PM in SUMMER UNIFORM (Show Shirt, Khakis, Sneakers) in the band room ready to warm-up. Meet the Trojans performance is at 6:00PM. We will return to the band room following our performance to rehearse music for the South Pointe HS Football Game. Students will need a folio and lyre for this performance and rehearsal.
The colorguard will be in sectionals during this rehearsal and does not need to wear summer uniform.
Information for Friday’s Game – 8/17/2018
This is a required performance for all winds and battery percussion. Call time at Northwestern is 6:15PM in SUMMER UNIFORM (Show Shirt, Khakis, Sneakers). Busses will depart no later than 6:30PM. We will arrive back at NHS at approximately 10:30PM/10:45PM. We will send out a REMIND text with a more defined ETA as we depart SPHS.
All participating students traveling to SPHS with the band must have a signed band handbook contract on file with the band office (more info below).
2018 Band Handbook & Contracts
The 2018-2019 NHS Band Handbook is now available for your review. All band members MUST SIGN AND RETURN the handbook contract page. We will pass out hard copies of this form to students at Tuesday’s practice. Please return signed contracts to the Purple Box.
2018 Band Fees
As we move into the school year, students and families are reminded of their financial obligation concerning the 2018 Marching Season Fee. Remember, all payments for this fee should be dropped into the Purple Box. Mr. Tinker will issue a receipt for your payment.
